Databricks opens Private Network Gateway preview on Azure
The service links Databricks serverless computing to internal networks through an encrypted tunnel; an AWS private preview is also underway.
Databricks has made its Private Network Gateway (PNG) available as a public preview on Microsoft Azure, according to ZDNet Korea. The company said a private preview on Amazon Web Services (AWS) is underway and that a Google Cloud version is in development.
PNG connects Databricks serverless computing to a company's internal network through an encrypted tunnel that Databricks sets up and operates, so customers do not have to configure the connection themselves.
Under the model, customers define which parts of their internal network Databricks may reach, and access remains limited by existing network paths and firewall rules.
Databricks lists two main uses: pulling data from internal and on-premises databases, and connecting AI agents built on Databricks to company MCP servers.
According to interviews cited by Databricks, more than 75% of customers named the complexity of existing network configurations and changes as a main reason for not moving some workloads to serverless.
