DeepSeek released a Search API and a Fetch API on October 17, 2026, giving external developers access to web search and document fetching inside their own applications and systems. The Chinese AI company also released a new model, DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, the same day, according to GIGAZINE.
The Search API draws on DeepSeek's own search engine to locate information on the web. The Fetch API takes a URL and returns the page content in Markdown format.

Free period for server-side tool use
Server-side use of the Search and Fetch APIs through tools such as DeepSeek Harness, Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex will be free until 1:00 a.m. Japan time on November 1, 2026. Billing starts after that point.
The web search function previously used inside DeepSeek's own AI service has been extended so that external developers can use it in their applications. Actual costs still vary with usage.
