Dell proposes desk-side agentic AI to cut costs up to 87%
Dell Technologies says running repetitive AI agent inference on local workstations can cut AI usage costs by up to 87% over two years and pay back the investment in as little as three months.
Dell Technologies has proposed a "Desk-side Agentic AI" approach that runs repetitive AI agent inference on high-performance workstations next to the user instead of in the cloud, according to byline.network.
Dell said the approach can cut AI usage costs by up to 87% over two years compared with cloud-based AI services, and can pay back the investment in as little as three months. The company described desk-side agentic AI as one pillar of its hybrid AI strategy, splitting AI workloads across cloud, data center and desk-side. The solution combines hardware, software and security technology for building and running AI agents at the desk side.
Workstations from 200 billion to 1 trillion parameters
The Dell Pro Max with GB10 and Dell Pro Precision T2 Tower support models of up to 200 billion parameters and up to 3 agents. The Dell Pro Precision T4 Tower supports models of up to 500 billion parameters and up to 10 agents. The Dell Pro Precision T6 Tower and Dell Pro Max with GB300 support models of up to 1 trillion parameters and 20 agents.
Dell said desk-side AI work can be scaled to PowerEdge servers via Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA. It built an environment based on NVIDIA NemoClaw to run agents in an isolated environment and limit their behavior range. NemoClaw uses OpenShell to restrict which files, systems and functions agents can access, and CrowdStrike Falcon to detect and respond to threats on the endpoint.
GB10 and GB300 based products support TPM 2.0; GB300 products also support air-gap operation, hardware root of trust and secure boot. Dell presented a staged structure of validate, scale and orchestration, starting with GB10 products and moving to Precision 9 tower workstations for team-level work.
At the "Dell Technologies Forum 2026", a director of Dell Technologies' FPM team said token prices are falling but agentic AI is driving total usage and costs up and making them hard to predict. According to a Signal65 report, 93% of enterprises are researching, testing or adopting AI agents, and agentic environments can use 4 to 15 times more tokens than ordinary chatbots. Palo Alto Networks said in 2026 that indirect prompt injection attacks are being observed in real web environments, and Microsoft previously warned that such threats could affect AI agents' decision-making and data processing.
