Discord to make public server messages searchable on the web
The opt-out feature rolls out in mid-December and covers only discoverable servers with more than 1,000 members, Discord said.
Discord announced that messages posted in discoverable servers will become searchable on the web starting in mid-December, according to kotaku.com. The feature is opt-out by default.
Only discoverable servers are affected, meaning public servers with more than 1,000 members that can be joined without an invite link. Direct messages, private servers and group DMs are not included.
Admins on discoverable servers can choose which channels appear in search results before the feature goes live. In addition, only messages from adult accounts will be shown.
Members of discoverable servers who do not want their messages indexed can opt out through their privacy settings. Discord framed the change as limited to servers that are already publicly joinable.
