Dollar Tree Recalls 360,000 Balloon Pumps Over Fire Risk
CPSC says the electric pumps overheated, with one unit producing flames and another exploding; no injuries have been reported.
More than 360,000 electric balloon pumps sold at Dollar Tree and through DoorDash have been recalled after reports of overheating, including one unit that produced flames inside and another that exploded, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The CPSC advised consumers to stop using the pumps immediately and return them to any Dollar Tree store for a full refund. Consumers who bought the pump online should contact the firm for a pre-paid shipping label to return it for a full refund, the agency said. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled pump is made of plastic, appears pink with a blue handle, and has two blue nozzles on top. The model number 406198 appears on both the packaging and the product itself.
The pumps were manufactured in China and sold from August 2025 to July 2026 for roughly $17. Dollar Tree and DoorDash are named as the sellers in the recall notice.
Recall context
The U.S. has seen a large number of food and product recalls in recent months. In January 2025, President Donald Trump retook power, and his administration fired the three Democratic members of the CPSC board, leaving just two Republican members. In August, the Republican-controlled Senate confirmed two Trump appointees, giving the agency a quorum. In July, the Consumer Federation of America wrote to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation opposing the nominees over lack of product safety experience.
