Flathub reverses AI content ban, now requires disclosure

Flathub will allow AI-generated submissions again, provided submitters label the affected parts, according to Linuxiac.

Flathub has reversed its ban on AI-generated content, according to Linuxiac. The change comes in a revised commit to the project's documentation, which now permits AI-assisted material as long as it is disclosed.

Under the revised rules, submitters must disclose any AI-generated code, documentation, packaging or other material, identifying which parts were produced with AI and the approximate extent of that use. Submissions must be made by humans: AI agents cannot generate commit messages, descriptions, review comments or replies.

Flathub maintainers retain the right to reject AI-labeled apps if they have concerns about review, quality or maintainability.

In May 2025, Flathub had banned AI-generated submissions outright. Since then, other Linux distributions have declared that they accept LLM-created code as long as it meets a high quality bar.
