Gentle Monster, Warby Parker Open AI Glasses Pre-Orders on the 12th

Pre-orders for the "Intelligent Eyewear" AI glasses from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker will open on the 12th, ahead of an official launch in December, according to aitimes.com. Gentle Monster published the pre-order schedule on its official website on the 6th, and Warby Parker confirmed the same timing during its third-quarter earnings announcement on the 5th local time.

The glasses run on the Android XR platform jointly developed by Samsung Electronics, Google and Qualcomm. They are camera- and voice-focused AI glasses rather than AR glasses that project images onto the lenses, so they do not display information in the wearer's field of view.

Wearers can talk to Gemini to get information about nearby objects or places, and use real-time translation, navigation, message checks and photo capture. The frames also support voice commands and touch controls.

Gentle Monster said the product will officially launch in December, while Warby Parker plans to ship orders to customers during the year-end holidays. Neither brand has disclosed exact prices.

Gentle Monster has also released a teaser for a promotional short film starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Jonathan Glazer; the full film is due mid-month.

Earlier unveilings

Samsung and Google first showed AI glasses co-developed with the two brands at Google I/O in May, then presented the design and key features at Galaxy Unpacked in July, where they outlined a strategy to extend the Galaxy ecosystem from smartphones to glasses.
