Gicon Completes World's Tallest Wind Turbine at 365 Meters in Germany

German firm Gicon finished construction of a 365-meter wind turbine near Schipkau, Brandenburg, with commissioning set for November.

German company Gicon has completed construction of the world's tallest wind turbine near Schipkau in Brandenburg, Germany, according to techradar.com. The turbine's tower reaches 365 meters (1,198 feet), making it the tallest wind turbine in the world and the second tallest structure in Germany.

Official commissioning is scheduled for November. The first super-tall turbine will have a rated output of 3.8 MW, and Gicon says future builds are expected to reach 7 MW.

The company says the design is expected to achieve twice the energy yield of a conventional wind turbine with the same rotor diameter. To assemble it, Gicon used what it calls an "inside out" construction approach, with a strand jack system lifting higher sections through the turbine base.

Gicon also says current wind farms can be retrofitted with the taller structures.
