Gemini 4 Argon agents beat Minecraft's Ender Dragon in 27 hours

Four Google DeepMind agents coordinated through in-game chat and shared memory, wrote 2,783 programs and died 605 times before the kill.

Four AI agents built on Google DeepMind's Gemini 4 Argon model cooperated to defeat Minecraft's Ender Dragon in 27 hours and 14 minutes, according to a paper the researchers published on arXiv on October 15, 2026.

The run took place in Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.4 survival mode on easy difficulty in a randomly generated world. The agents were given only the goal of defeating the Ender Dragon; no roles, strategy order or human-made game tools were supplied.

To control their characters, the agents wrote and ran JavaScript programs through the open-source library Mineflayer. They coordinated crafting tools, securing food and opening portals using in-game chat and shared memory, writing and executing 2,783 programs, exchanging 229 chat messages and dying a cumulative 605 times.

The final battle

In the last fight the agents placed dirt blocks to reach and destroy the 10 crystals healing the Ender Dragon. The dragon fell about 39 minutes after the last crystal was destroyed. The agent credited with the final blow, bulicame, finished with 2.5 of 20 health remaining.

The researchers said the run was a single attempt on easy difficulty and did not establish that the result can be repeated.
