Google to shut down Firebase Studio by March 22, 2027

Google is directing developers to Google AI Studio and Antigravity as it shifts its tools toward AI-agent-based workflows.

Google confirmed on November 6 that it will shut down Firebase Studio, its cloud-based integrated development environment, and that developers have until March 22, 2027 to move their projects to other development tools. According to Engadget, Google said the decision reflects a shift in the focus of its development tools from code editing to AI-agent-based workflows.

New sign-ups and workspace creation for Firebase Studio were halted from June 22, when the migration window opened. Existing users can keep their projects until March 22, 2027; after that date the service will be fully shut down and any remaining data permanently deleted.

Google is positioning Google AI Studio and Antigravity as the replacement services. Both can integrate with existing Firebase services, so projects that rely on Firebase's backend can be moved without abandoning those dependencies.

Developers who prefer a different integrated development environment can download their source code as an archive or export it to GitHub. Google had announced its plan to discontinue Firebase Studio on March 19.

Firebase Studio launched in 2025 as an online development tool built to work with Firebase's backend services, including databases and web hosting.
