Google Details Quick Access and Files AI for Googlebooks

Quick Access supports drag-and-drop transfers under 200MB; larger files go through Quick Share, and cross-device features need Android 17.

Google has detailed two software features for its recently launched Googlebooks line, Quick Access and Files AI, in a reviewer's guide obtained by Android Authority. The features are described in the guide rather than a standalone public announcement.

Quick Access lets users browse, open and transfer files between a paired Android phone and the Googlebook. Drag-and-drop transfers between the phone and laptop are supported, but only for files under 200MB. For anything larger, Google recommends Quick Share. The cross-device functions require a device running Android 17.

Files AI adds descriptions and subject-based search

Files AI adds a Description field next to file names in Googlebooks, holding short descriptions of file content. It also changes how search works: images can be located by their subject matter instead of by file name.

According to the guide, Files AI can take up to an hour to appear once it is enabled, and it reportedly will not work when the Googlebook's battery is low.

The Googlebooks lineup was announced recently, with pre-order shipments beginning on October 4, 2026. Earlier today, limitations of the Googlebook were reported.
