GPTZero finds 15 AI hallucinations in Accenture-linked paper

The AI-detection firm also counted 31 hallucinated sources across three Accenture products; the consultancy blames human error and is correcting the report.

GPTZero has identified 15 AI hallucinations in an Accenture-linked research paper titled "Leapfrogging Development: Unlocking Africa's Potential in Global Value Chains with Artificial Intelligence," the AI-detection software publisher reported.

The paper was produced in collaboration with IE University in Madrid. Alongside the 15 hallucinations, GPTZero said it found four further flawed citations in the same document.

Across three Accenture products it reviewed, GPTZero reported a total of 31 hallucinated sources, according to techradar.com.

Accenture disputed that AI caused the errors, attributing them to human error. The consultancy said the report is being corrected ahead of a re-release.

The findings add to earlier scrutiny of AI use in consultancy research: in August 2026, GPTZero highlighted reports from auditing firm PwC that it said contained inaccurate and false claims. Accenture has stressed that its employees should use AI more productively.
