Ha Jung-woo to serve as Senior Area Chair at ICML 2027
The National AI Strategy Committee vice chair has held the same SAC role at NeurIPS in 2025 and 2026, where 21,575 papers were submitted.
Ha Jung-woo, vice chair of South Korea's National AI Strategy Committee, said he will serve as a Senior Area Chair (SAC) at ICML 2027, according to ZDNet Korea.
Ha previously held the same SAC position at NeurIPS in 2025 and 2026. At NeurIPS 2025, 21,575 papers were submitted and 5,290 were accepted, with 240 SACs and 1,985 ACs taking part in the review process.
Ha said a single SAC may be responsible for more than 100 submitted papers. He added that last year, while serving as AI Future Planning Secretary in the presidential office, he turned down requests to act as an AC at other conferences because of the workload.
Before entering public office, Ha led Naver Cloud's AI Innovation Center, where he oversaw development of the HyperCLOVA X large language model. He was appointed the presidential office's first AI Future Planning Secretary in June 2025 and became standing vice chair of the National AI Strategy Committee in August 2026.
