Counterpoint: Humanoid Robot DRAM Demand to Jump Over 20-Fold by 2030
Memory makers Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are targeting robotics as a new growth driver after Counterpoint Research projected demand rising from 8,300 Tbit in 2025 to 172,000 Tbit in 2030.
Counterpoint Research has forecast that global DRAM demand for humanoid robots will grow more than 20-fold between 2025 and 2030, from about 8,300 Tbit to 172,000 Tbit. The projection, reported by inews24.com, has prompted memory makers Samsung Electronics and SK hynix to target robotics as a new growth driver.
Average DRAM capacity per robot is projected to more than double over the same period, from 19 GB to 39 GB.
Samsung has already moved on the segment. In July, the company established the Robot Experience (RX) Business Promotion Team directly under DX division head Noh Tae-moon to accelerate humanoid development and commercialization. On July 30, Samsung Electronics said at its Q2 earnings conference call that it is developing next-generation robot semiconductor solutions covering low-power memory, image sensors and foundry.
SK hynix has taken a partnership route. On June 8, the company announced a long-term technology cooperation plan with Nvidia including joint development of next-generation memory, covering Nvidia's robotics AI computing platform Jetson Thor. The two companies plan to jointly develop memory for Jetson Thor as well as the next-generation AI supercomputer Vera Rubin, the CPU Vera and the AI PC platform RTX Spark.
Micron has framed the same opportunity around automotive compute. On the 30th of last month, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said at the company's fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter earnings call that Level 4 or higher autonomous vehicles typically need over 200 GB of memory and several terabytes of storage.
