Hyundai Motor Group forms RX team to lead Atlas robotics push

The new RX Business Strategy Team sits under the group's Future Business Strategy Office, as Atlas deployment at US plants nears.

Hyundai Motor Group has created an RX Business Strategy Team under its Future Business Strategy Office through a recent organizational reshuffle, according to inews24.com. The group says RX stands for "Robotics Everything." The team's size and exact scope have not been disclosed.

The unit takes shape as the group moves toward mass production and factory deployment of the Atlas humanoid robot developed by its US subsidiary Boston Dynamics. Hyundai Motor Group has said it plans to build an annual robot production system of 30,000 units in the US by 2028 and to deploy more than 25,000 robots at its global production sites.

Atlas schedules in Georgia

Atlas will first be deployed at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia in 2028, initially handling sequencing work such as sorting and arranging assembly parts in order. From 2030, its tasks will expand to parts assembly. Kia plans to deploy Atlas at AutoLand Georgia in the second half of 2029.

The group opened the Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC) at HMGMA in September and began training Atlas there. Boston Dynamics plans to move RMAC in 2027 to a facility about 10 times larger than the current one.

Earlier, in May 2026, the group created a position overseeing its software-defined factory initiative and named Alpesh Patel, formerly of McKinsey & Company, to lead it, and set up a Robotics Parts Purchasing Office headed by Soh Hyun-sung.
