Jassy: AI model market to settle at 6-8 top models

Amazon's CEO told analysts Bedrock is the fastest-growing multi-billion-dollar product in AWS history, with Fortune 500 spend up nearly 7x.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said on the company's third-quarter earnings conference call that within two to three years the AI model market will consolidate to 6 to 8 models with similar performance, or models capable of handling more than 95% of workloads, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.

Jassy was answering a question from Goldman Sachs analyst Eric Sheridan about the market opportunity for Amazon Bedrock, Amazon's foundation model service. He said most customers will use multiple models, and many will run several models inside a single generative AI application.

He described Bedrock's opportunity as huge and said it could eventually grow as large as EC2. Spending on Bedrock by Fortune 500 companies has grown nearly 7x year over year, and token throughput has increased nearly 17x, Jassy said. He called Bedrock the fastest-growing multi-billion-dollar product in AWS history.

Lessons from earlier platform shifts

Jassy pointed to the past 20 years, saying many technology leaders lost an early advantage, including in the database and data analytics markets. He cited TensorFlow, which once appeared set to become the standard for AI development but was overtaken by PyTorch.

Bedrock offers about 100 foundation models from providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, Mistral, DeepSeek, Moonshot AI and xAI through a single API. Amazon recently brought OpenAI models into Bedrock and added managed versions of open models such as Moonshot Kimi and Z.ai GLM.
