Kakao revamps KakaoTalk Channel Home and News features
Kakao added a Content-type Channel Home and Card-type News on October 20, 2026, and widened eligibility for business channel conversion.
Kakao revamped the KakaoTalk Channel 'Channel Home' and 'News' features on October 20, 2026, adding a Content-type Channel Home, a Card-type News format and broader eligibility for business channel conversion, according to techm.kr.
The new 'Content-type Channel Home' displays news and short-form content from a channel as a grid feed. Partners can choose between the existing General type and the new Content type for their Channel Home, and business channels can set Channel Home backgrounds with photos, videos and colors.
For News, the new 'Card-type News' format allows up to 40 photos and videos, plus one link and one location. The existing 'Blog-type News' remains available for long-form posts. News creation now handles editing, preview and publishing settings on a single screen.
Business channel conversion eligibility was expanded from registered businesses to qualified individuals. Approved partners can use a new 'Career Card' to introduce their expertise and experience.
Kakao also plans to add within the year a feature so profile changes do not notify friends and a faster way to find favorite friends. It plans to introduce the AI assistant 'Kanana Space' within the year, summoned by swiping the KakaoTalk screen with two fingers and operated by voice or text.
Earlier changes to the Friends tab
In September 2025, Kakao revamped the KakaoTalk Friends tab and added a short-form tab, which drew criticism over privacy exposure and content quality. Since then, Kakao has reworked the Friends tab into a tab-in-tab format and set up a 'User First TF' plus the 'KakaoTalk Now' feedback website.
