Kakao adds My Name Protection to Kakao Account

Registering the same person's identity on a second Kakao Account now needs approval from the original account, via KakaoTalk or email.

Kakao introduced a "My Name Protection" feature for Kakao Account on October 22, 2026, according to digitaltoday.co.kr. When the feature is switched on, registering the same person's identity verification information on a different Kakao Account requires an extra verification step.

That step is completed either by pressing "Allow" in a KakaoTalk message sent to the account where the name is already registered, or by entering a code sent to that account's email. Both routes route the approval through the original account rather than the new one.

Users can turn the feature on or off in KakaoTalk settings, under the Kakao Account "Account Security" menu, and on the Kakao Account website.

Kakao already offers two-step verification, country-based login restrictions, passkeys and QR code login for account protection.
