Keurig Smart Brewer Reportedly Sent 1TB of Data in 10 Days

An IT professional says his parents' Keurig K-Supreme SMART saturated a Wi-Fi access point with roughly 97GB of daily traffic before he isolated it in a VLAN.

An IT professional reported on X that his parents' Keurig K-Supreme SMART coffee maker uploaded about 1TB of data over their Wi-Fi in 10 days, according to tomshardware.com. The traffic saturated an access point on its own, he said.

The user said the reported traffic averaged about 9 Mbps upstream, roughly 97GB a day. Most of the traffic did not leave the home network, and no packet capture was made, he added.

The affected model is the Keurig K-Supreme SMART with BrewID. The device was reportedly disconnected the evening of Oct. 5.

Rebooting the device and placing it in a segregated VLAN temporarily solved the issue, according to the report. The user recommended that Keurig fix a potential flaw in the device's network stack.

In 2022, The Boston Globe reported that Keurig shared brewing data with brands selling K-Cups, with plans for more personalized marketing.
