LG Display Adopts FLIPP OLED Patterning on 8th-Gen Mother Glass
LG Display has adopted its FLIPP FMM-less OLED patterning technology on 8th-generation mother glass, targeting up to 1.9 times higher deposition efficiency.
LG Display has adopted FLIPP (FMM-Less Innovative Pixel Patterning), its next-generation OLED patterning technology that forms pixels without a fine metal mask, on 8th-generation mother glass. According to techm.kr, the move is aimed at strengthening the company's competitiveness in OLED production.
The company says it achieved 93% cutting efficiency on 8th-generation mother glass with FLIPP, compared with 75% for the conventional fine metal mask (FMM) method. LG Display also expects deposition efficiency up to 1.9 times higher than the FMM method.
The technology removes the fine metal mask from the pixel patterning step, a change LG Display says supports higher efficiency on larger substrates. The company plans to build a "FLIPP One Platform" to achieve production flexibility.
Financial context
Analyst consensus for LG Display's third-quarter revenue stands at around 6.71 trillion won, with operating profit around 320 billion won, according to techm.kr. That consensus points to a low single-digit decline in revenue year-on-year and a mid-20% decline in operating profit.
In October 2025, Apple's small and mid-sized OLED demand continued to lead the market, and LG Display historically performs better in the second half than the first. In 2025, LG Display recorded an annual operating profit for the first time in four years after completing its large LCD restructuring while keeping its IT and automotive LCD lines. The company is focusing on reinforcing current lines rather than investing in new production facilities.
