LG Uplus hosts 5,000 long-term customers at Hwadam Botanic Garden

The telecom rented the entire Gyeonggi garden for the October 19 event, which drew 46,000 applicants for 5,000 places.

LG Uplus held an invitation event for about 5,000 long-term customers at Hwadam Botanic Garden in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, on October 19, according to techm.kr. Some 46,000 people applied for the event, a competition ratio of 9.2 to 1.

The company rented the entire garden for the occasion. Visitors followed a stamp tour and photo zones set along the autumn foliage paths.

LG Uplus also built a biodiversity garden of about 1,600 square meters at the site, planting roughly 10,000 plants of around 120 species, including 34 native Korean plant species. Soil monitoring sensors and IoT facility-collapse detection sensors were installed there.

The venue operates on a 100% reservation basis, admitting only a set number of visitors each day. It covers about 170,000 square meters and displays about 4,000 plant species across 16 theme gardens, and is named after the pen name of the late LG honorary chairman Koo Bon-moo, who created it. Heavy rain fell the day before the event, on October 18.

LG Uplus plans to expand its long-term customer events from 8 per year this year to 24 per year next year, and to add online programs.
