Mastercard launches Stablecoin Security fraud screening tool

The service scores stablecoin transaction risk via API before funds move on-chain, starting in North America, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.

Mastercard unveiled a service called Stablecoin Security at the Money20/20 USA fintech event in the United States, according to digitaltoday.co.kr. The tool lets financial institutions assess risk before stablecoins actually move on the blockchain.

Stablecoin Security traces the source of funds and checks for links to financial crime, including fraud, scams and sanctions violations. It scores the risk of transaction context and delivers that information through an API, so banks can plug it into their existing fraud-prevention and compliance systems.

The service launches first in the North American market. Mastercard said a global commercial service is planned for 2027, and that it intends to integrate BVNK into Stablecoin Security next year.

Background

In August, Mastercard completed its acquisition of the stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK. Last week, it introduced its Global Money Platform, which fully integrates BVNK.

Mastercard cited a Bank for International Settlements study that analysed 593 million stablecoin transfers among 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025, finding that nearly 60% involved multi-step transactions rather than simple one-to-one transfers.
