Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia lead week of AI model and device launches

Meta released an open-weight AI model called Muse Spark Open with 816 billion parameters, one of a series of AI product and deal announcements covered in a weekly roundup by Digital Today, as investors weighed concerns about overinvestment in AI infrastructure.

Microsoft released a new AI model, MAI-Base-2, claiming it is more powerful than OpenAI's models and was developed using a quarter of the computing resources. Nvidia released Nemotron 3.5, an open model for AI agents that targets servers through to edge devices. Meta also partnered with Apple to run Muse Spark Open locally on Macs.

Kling AI officially launched its new video-generation model, Kling 4.0. Amazon unveiled two new versions of its conversation-recording AI device Bee: a wrist wearable and a credit-card-sized voice recorder. OpenAI updated ChatGPT's voice feature based on its voice model GPT-Live-1.1, adding two Korean voices.

Deals and data-center plans

Anthropic is acquiring confidential computing and AI specialist OFAI through an acquihire, while OpenAI is negotiating to hand its discontinued video-generation AI Sora to a startup. Google DeepMind developed an on-smartphone fraud detection AI model together with GovTech Singapore. Dell Technologies is expanding its Dell AI Data Platform to give applications and AI agents reliable up-to-date context from companies' own data.

In Korea, Bessl AI said it plans to secure AI data-center hubs in eight locations nationwide by 2028 and introduce 200,000 GPUs in stages by 2030, and will provide global inference infrastructure for Upstage's Solar Pro 4. MangoBoost introduced a serverless AI inference platform called Mango Inference, while FriendliAI and Ollama will hold an event in Korea on November 4 and 5 on open model adoption.

The roundup came as AI-related stocks fell notably in the past week amid fears of overinvestment in AI infrastructure. Apple, which has invested relatively less in AI, surpassed a 5 trillion dollar market capitalization following Nvidia. Amazon Web Services' CFO said current levels of AI spending are sustainable and server investments can be recovered within three years, while Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell said the bottleneck is memory chips rather than demand and that the situation will get worse next year. Anthropic posted third-quarter revenue of 16.8 billion dollars, with growth slowing compared to early this year, and received a BB+ credit rating from Kroll Bond Rating Agency.
