Meta launches personal AI agent Muse in Japan

Meta Muse, which reads email, messages and calendars, topped Japan's free iPhone app ranking by late October 25, Impress Watch reports.

Meta launched its personal AI service Meta Muse in Japan on October 23, 2026, according to watch.impress.co.jp. Muse is an always-on personal AI agent that reads emails, messages, calendars and files and acts on the user's behalf.

The service requires no special setup beyond connecting an email account, runs in Meta's cloud and can be used from a smartphone. Its default character is Jolly, and users can build a customized character with AI inside Muse.

Muse is basically free with weekly usage limits; the Power plan costs 20 dollars per month. Meta says the service had reached 10 million app downloads before the Japan launch, and by late night on October 25 it topped the free iPhone app ranking in Japan.

Meta's chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, said in an interview with TBS CROSS DIG with Bloomberg that the company prioritized countries and regions where Muse is likely to be widely accepted.

Earlier rollouts and hardware plans

Meta began Muse in the United States in September 2026 and expanded it to Canada before Japan. On October 2, 2026, the company announced the open-source Muse Gadgets project and the Muse Home Link gadget, and it plans to release Muse Charm hardware by the end of the year.

Competing agent services include OpenAI's dots, which requires a ChatGPT Pro 100 plan at 100 dollars per month, and Grok Bot, which offers a 7-day free trial and requires a 30-dollar monthly plan. Apple's first foldable smartphone, iPhone Duo, is also on sale.
