Meta to end OS updates for Quest 2 and Quest Pro in March 2027
Security patches will continue through the end of 2027, and existing games, cross-play and Quest Link PC VR keep working.
Meta has set March 2027 as the date for the final operating system updates for the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro, according to androidauthority.com. Both headsets will continue to receive security updates until the end of 2027.
Owners will not lose access to their software: supported games, multiplayer cross-play and PC VR through Meta Quest Link will keep working on both devices after the OS updates stop.
Developers are also not cut off from the hardware. They may still ship bug fixes, updates and additional content for existing titles on the Quest 2 and Quest Pro, and any studio that ends support for a game must give players six months' notice.
Two headsets, two lifespans
The Quest 2 launched in 2020, giving it a little over seven years of security support under the new timeline. The Quest Pro, which arrived in October 2022 and was expensive at launch, gets just over five years.
