Meta has begun rolling out a setting that lets owners of its smart glasses opt out of having their visual data used to train AI models. The option lives inside the Meta AI app, and the company is alerting glasses owners to the change with a pop-up.
To find it, users navigate to their glasses settings, select Meta AI, and scroll to "store visual data from AI experiences." The glasses need to be out of their case and connected to a phone before the setting can be changed. Anyone with more than one pair must repeat the process for each pair.
Meta published a help center article stating that visual data may be used to train AI models, a process that may involve human review. According to the company, visual data is stored only when certain AI features are in use, such as Live AI.
That data does not include photos and videos captured with the glasses when the capture LED is on. Opting out may come at a cost: Meta says it could prevent the use of certain features, including visual reminders.
