Microsoft Edge 156 rolls out with passport autofill
Edge 156.0.4314.42 reaches the Stable channel with a key icon panel for managing saved credentials and passport and driver's license autofill.
Microsoft released Microsoft Edge v156.0.4314.42 to the Stable channel on October 22, 2026, according to forest.watch.impress.co.jp. The update adds an enhanced key icon panel in the address bar for saved credentials and brings passport and driver's license autofill to the desktop browser.
The credential panel lets users copy a username, reveal or copy a password, and add personal notes to each saved login. On desktop, Edge 156 can also fill passport and driver's license details into web forms, alongside the saved addresses it already handled.
Site permission prompts have been reworked so that requests look and behave the same on the website and in settings, with further changes to the address bar and the Page Info dialog. The edge://settings/help page now carries a "Restart to update on idle" option.
The release fixes a case where some users could not launch Edge after a scheduled update or restart carried out by the Microsoft Edge management service. It also picks up Chromium vulnerability fixes; no CVE list was published for Edge 156 at the time of writing, while Chrome 156 fixed 353 vulnerabilities.
Web platform changes
Among the web platform additions are the CSS random() function, the :navigation-source pseudo-class for the View Transitions API, single-axis scroll containers via "overflow: scroll clip", and "scroll-snap-type: pair". Failed module imports can now be retried, and IndexedDB uses SQLite as its internal storage engine in new data stores.
Edge is available free for Windows, Mac and Linux from the official site, and existing users can update through Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge in the browser menu.
