Mozilla Accuses Microsoft of Steering Windows Users to Edge
Mozilla says Microsoft has not signaled any change after receiving its Over The Edge 2.0 report, and wants EU browser-choice rules applied worldwide.
Mozilla has published a blog post accusing Microsoft of abusing its dominant position to steer Windows users toward Edge, and is calling for stricter browser-choice rules to be applied worldwide. According to TechRadar, the company says Microsoft respects user choice only when it is legally forced to do so, pointing to enforcement of the EU's Digital Markets Act as the example.
Mozilla said it shared its findings with Microsoft and discussed the issues raised, but received no indication that the company would change its practices.
The post marks 100 days since Mozilla published its Over The Edge 2.0 report, which examined how Windows, Edge, Bing and Copilot steer users away from their chosen browser. That report was published in October 2025 and written by Dr. Harry Brignull and Cennydd Bowles.
In its latest blog, Mozilla asks that the fairer browser-choice designs enforced in the European Economic Area be expanded to users in other markets.
