Musk to give every US child one SpaceX share next year

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on X that each child in the United States will receive a single share, but the distribution method was not disclosed.

Elon Musk said he plans to give one SpaceX share to every child in the United States next year, according to a post he published on X. Musk described the plan as the first of its kind.

The method for distributing the shares has not been disclosed, and SpaceX did not respond to further questions, CNBC reported.

Musk's statement came shortly after Anthropic announced plans to allocate 5% of its equity to a new public-interest fund. That Anthropic stake could grow as the company's value increases.

As of July 1, 2025, the U.S. under-18 population stood at 72 million, according to official Census statistics. Covering 72 million shares at Friday's closing price of $146.03 would be worth about $10.5 billion.

As of an August SEC filing, Musk held about 4.8 billion SpaceX shares, rising to 6.4 billion including unvested awards and stock options, or a 48.4% beneficial stake.
