NH Hanaro Mart recorded the highest combined estimated card payment amount among food retail brands in South Korea from January to August this year, according to an analysis by WiseApp Retail. Kurly ranked second over the same period.
Top Mart, GS The Fresh, Lotte Fresh & Deli, E-mart Everyday, Jangbogo Food Materials Mart, Homeplus Express, Ourhome and hy followed in the rankings released by the retail data firm.
WiseApp Retail said the survey covered supermarket, SSM, food-focused online mall, food material/B2B store and organic store brands that recorded estimated payments of 2 billion won or more in August.
Age and regional spending patterns
Consumers aged 60 and over accounted for the largest share of NH Hanaro Mart payments by age group in August, while Gyeonggi residents made up 22.1% of payments, the largest regional share.
Kurly drew its largest age-group share from consumers in their 40s. Gyeonggi (33.0%) and Seoul (32.2%) residents together accounted for 65.2% of Kurly payments, while Busan (41.0%) and South Gyeongsang (39.0%) residents made up 80.0% of Top Mart payments. Daegu residents accounted for 68.3% of Jangbogo Food Materials Mart payments.
