Nikon Museum Opens Exhibition on Camera Viewfinders
The free, no-booking show runs until February 27, 2027 and covers rangefinder, SLR and mirrorless viewfinder systems.
Nikon Museum opened a special exhibition on camera viewfinders on October 22, 2026, according to dc.watch.impress.co.jp. The show, whose title translates as "Secrets of the Viewfinder — Peek Inside. The World Seen Through a Camera," runs until February 27, 2027, with free admission and no reservation required.
Rather than focusing on a single model, the exhibition is organised around the three viewfinder types Nikon has built: rangefinder, single-lens reflex and mirrorless.
At the entrance, a large panel depicts the Nikon Z9 at oversized scale. Looking into the electronic viewfinder area of the panel reveals an image that is inverted vertically and horizontally — the way a lens projects it before the camera corrects it.
A triangular table modelled on a prism carries one viewfinder system on each of its faces. Booklets in Japanese and English describing episodes from Nikon's camera history are placed in each corner, and visitors may take them home.
The museum is on the first floor of Nikon's headquarters and Innovation Center in Nishi-Oi, Shinagawa, Tokyo. Opening hours are 10:00 to 17:30, with last entry at 17:00; the museum is closed on Mondays, Sundays, public holidays and other designated days.
