Nokia sells campus edge unit to Aurelius as Ericsson restructures enterprise arm

Nokia's ECE division, serving around 900 customers with private 4G/5G and edge computing, will change hands in the first half of 2027, two days after Ericsson said it would dismantle its Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions.

Nokia announced on October 13, 2026 that it will sell its Enterprise Campus Edge (ECE) business to German investment firm Aurelius, according to ZDNet Korea. Two days later, Ericsson said it will dismantle its Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS) unit and redistribute its related operations into existing organizations.

Nokia's ECE business serves about 900 customers worldwide, providing private 4G/5G networks and edge computing infrastructure to factories, ports, mines and logistics centers. The divestment includes the Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) private wireless solution and the MX Industrial Edge (MXIE) platform. Nokia will retain dedicated network businesses for defense and rail industries. The sale is expected to close in the first half of 2027.

Ericsson will move its private 5G and neutral host operations into its existing networks business area while keeping its wireless WAN business, based on Cradlepoint, separate. In its third quarter, Ericsson's enterprise segment organic revenue grew only 1% year-on-year, while group revenue grew 7%. The segment posted an EBITA loss of 500 million Swedish kronor.

Background

In November 2025, Nokia classified four businesses including ECE as a separate business group and began a strategic review; their combined annual revenue was about 900 million euros with combined losses of about 100 million euros. Omdia principal analyst Pablo Tomasi said Nokia struggled with developing and commercializing the MXIE platform and faced pressure from competing with carrier customers. Ericsson acquired Cradlepoint, which forms the basis of its wireless WAN business, in 2020.
