NVIDIA says Google and Meta will adopt its AI networking hardware

At the OCP Global Summit in San Jose, NVIDIA also unveiled data center specifications and a 12.8 Tbps optical module built with Cisco.

NVIDIA announced at the Open Compute Project Global Summit in San Jose that Google and Meta will adopt its AI networking hardware, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.

Meta will develop open AI networking technology based on NVIDIA's Spectrum-X Ethernet SuperNIC and Spectrum-6 switch chip. Google will support its Falcon Transport technology on NVIDIA's next-generation ConnectX-10 SuperNIC and BlueField DPU.

At the same event, Microsoft unveiled its Maia 300 inference AI chip. NVIDIA also shared its rack and compute tray designs with OCP so other companies can build compatible hardware.

New specifications and an optical module

NVIDIA introduced the Open Data Center Specification v0.7, covering power supply, cooling and facility layout standards, with AMD, Google and Meta joining the joint announcement.

The company announced an OCP Grid Resilience specification developed with Google, Meta and Microsoft, aimed at helping large AI data centers respond to power grid disturbances and return to near-maximum load within 2 seconds.

NVIDIA and Cisco also announced an ultra-high-density small form factor pluggable (USFP) optical module supporting 400 Gbps per lane and 12.8 Tbps total bandwidth.

Over the past year, Meta signed a multi-billion-dollar deal to rent Google's TPUs and developed and launched its own AI chip MTIA, while Google has been selling its TPUs to external customers. NVIDIA began shipping its next-generation AI platform Vera Rubin in August after unveiling it in March. On September 23, Supermicro announced shipping of Vera Rubin racks, and a week later CoreWeave said customer workloads were running on those systems. NVIDIA's fiscal 2026 second quarter (May-July) revenue rose 106% year-over-year to $96.2 billion, with data center business revenue at $89 billion.
