OpenAI Turns ChatGPT Into an App Platform at Dev Day
OpenAI unveiled in-chat app suggestions, plugin extensions, Sign in with ChatGPT, an enterprise marketplace, and autonomous agents called Dots.
OpenAI used its Dev Day on Tuesday to announce a set of features that turn ChatGPT from a chatbot into a platform for discovering and using apps. The company said ChatGPT will suggest apps within conversations and let users connect and use them directly inside ChatGPT.
OpenAI also expanded ChatGPT's plugin architecture to support extensions, giving developers a way to build interactive panels inside ChatGPT. Alongside that, it introduced "Sign in with ChatGPT," which lets users bring their ChatGPT identity and AI allowance into third-party apps. The company named 16 launch partners, including Cognition's Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw and Dactyl.
For businesses, OpenAI announced a new enterprise app marketplace with more than 30 launch partners, among them Adobe, Figma, Sierra, Decagon, HubSpot, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Legora, Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike and Baseten. OpenAI said eligible customers can apply part of their OpenAI commitment toward approved partner software in the marketplace.
The company also launched autonomous AI agents called Dots. According to OpenAI, Dots have their own cloud computer and browser and can navigate the web and use connected apps.
OpenAI said it has improved its plugin review process so developers can track reviews, see required fixes, request human review, and update plugin tools without resubmitting. TechCrunch reported the announcements.
