OpenAI to merge ChatGPT Chat and Work features this year
OpenAI's ChatGPT and Codex head said the integration is still in development, after a pop-up hinted at a combined interface for some users.
OpenAI plans to combine ChatGPT's regular chat features with its ChatGPT Work task-automation features within this year, according to Thibault Sottiaux, the company's head of ChatGPT and Codex. Sottiaux said on October 28 that the company intends to bring together the strengths of Chat and Work during this year.
He said the team is still working on the integration and has not launched it yet, and apologized for confusion. A pop-up titled "Chat and Work, all in one place" had appeared for some ChatGPT users, describing handling questions, presentation creation and control of external applications in a single conversation with reasoning set to Medium or higher.
Sottiaux's comments were reported by aitimes.com.
OpenAI has not finalized how usage limits will work after the integration. ChatGPT Work currently shares its usage system with Codex.
Background
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work in July 2026, expanding the conversational AI into a task-execution agent, and placed Chat, Work and Codex together in the ChatGPT desktop app. In mid-July 2026 the company changed the recent list so regular chats and Work tasks appear together. On October 22, 2026, Uber said it would provide ChatGPT Work to more than 30,000 employees.
