OpenAI Updates ChatGPT Voice With GPT-Live-1.1 and Korean Voices

OpenAI's ChatGPT Voice update, powered by GPT-Live-1.1, adds two Korean voices and rolls out worldwide, including to free users.

OpenAI announced on October 16, 2026, that it updated ChatGPT's voice conversation feature, Voice. The update is supported by the GPT-Live-1.1 model, which the company says improves intonation and speech expression across multiple languages, including more natural Korean conversation.

Two Korean voices were added: a male voice named Hanul and a female voice named Haetsal. Users can select either voice. According to aitimes.com, the update also applies a full duplex structure, allowing users to add questions while a response is underway or pause briefly and still continue the conversation.

During searches for information, the voice no longer repeats phrases such as "checking" and instead continues with context-appropriate expressions, OpenAI said. The update is being rolled out sequentially to ChatGPT users worldwide, including Korea, and free users can also use it.
