OpenAI Trims Funding Round Valuation Target to $1.25 Trillion

The company is closing a round of up to $30 billion led by UAE investors and Coatue, with signatures sought by the end of next week.

OpenAI has lowered the target valuation for its new funding round from $1.4 trillion to $1.25 trillion, as it enters the final stage of raising up to $30 billion, according to aitimes.com.

UAE investors and the US firm Coatue are leading the round. The pre-money valuation is expected to land at $1.25 trillion, roughly 50% above OpenAI's current valuation of $852 billion.

Morgan Stanley and Dragoneer had pitched the investment to Morgan Stanley private wealth clients at a $1.4 trillion valuation. OpenAI aims to secure investor signatures by the end of next week, and the amount actually raised may fall short of $30 billion depending on demand.

Separately, OpenAI is negotiating a commercial contract to secure additional computing resources in the UAE, where the Stargate infrastructure project is based. Microsoft also runs data center operations in the country.

Earlier rounds and IPO plans

OpenAI raised $40 billion in March 2025 and held a large funding round of $122 billion in March 2026. In August 2026, CFO Sarah Friar told employees the company would become a public company in 2027, while CEO Sam Altman had previously said this year is not a good time to go public.
