OpenAI hires SpaceX's Graham Simmons to lead cybersecurity sales

OpenAI has appointed Graham Simmons, previously head of sales at xAI, as head of sales for its cybersecurity business, according to aitimes.com.

OpenAI has hired Graham Simmons, previously at SpaceX, as head of sales for its cybersecurity business, according to aitimes.com. The move is part of a broader sales hiring push at the company.

Simmons had led xAI's sales organization since August 2025 before joining OpenAI.

The cybersecurity sales appointment follows a series of sales leadership changes at OpenAI. Last month the company hired Brian McCarthy as vice president of global sales. This month it appointed Ismail Elmas as vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, based in Munich. In August, OpenAI named Dali Rajic, former president and COO of Wiz, as chief revenue officer.

Earlier appointments include Dave Duggan, a former Meta advertising executive, who joined as vice president of global advertising solutions in March.

The hires come after several executive departures this summer. In July, Fidji Simo stepped down from her full-time executive role for health reasons and became a part-time advisor. In August, longtime COO Brad Lightcap announced his departure, and CRO Denise Dresser, who led the global revenue organization, resigned.

Headcount and office expansion

OpenAI has been expanding its workforce and offices. The Financial Times reported in March that the company planned to grow its staff from 4,500 to 8,000 by the end of the year. In July, OpenAI announced it would expand its European headquarters in Dublin to 350 people, more than triple the previous figure, and lease a new office.
