OpenAI Industrial Compute Head Sachin Katti to Depart on November 15

OpenAI says Compute CTO Udai Rudraraju will succeed Sachin Katti and lead the company's overall compute organization.

Sachin Katti, OpenAI's head of industrial compute, is leaving the company and will step down from his role on November 15, according to CNBC. Compute CTO Udai Rudraraju will succeed him and lead OpenAI's overall compute organization, an OpenAI spokesperson said.

Katti said in a LinkedIn post that he decided to leave to start something new. He will continue to support OpenAI as an advisor after his departure.

Rudraraju joined OpenAI in July last year. Before that, he was head of infrastructure engineering at Elon Musk's xAI, which was acquired by SpaceX early this year.

Leadership turnover

The change follows other recent departures. In July, product and business chief Fidji Simo said she would move to an advisory role to focus on recovery from a worsening illness, and the following month Brad Lightcap and revenue chief Denise Dresser also left the company.

OpenAI President Greg Brockman said different leadership combinations can appear at different times in a young company, that he and Sam Altman remain in place, and that the company is stronger for this resilience and diversity.

The departure comes as OpenAI has set its total compute spending target at roughly $600 billion by 2030 and is running multi-billion-dollar data center projects in Ohio, Texas and Georgia.
