ORICO unveils retro-style 2.5-inch HDD/SSD enclosure with UASP

The USB 3.0 enclosure reaches 5Gbps with UASP support, takes 7mm or 9.5mm drives up to 6TB and installs tool-free in about 3 seconds, ascii.jp reports.

ORICO has announced a 2.5-inch external enclosure for HDDs and SSDs built with a retro vintage design, according to ascii.jp. The enclosure connects over USB 3.0 with UASP support and is rated for a maximum transfer rate of 5Gbps.

ORICO says UASP makes the enclosure about 70% faster than conventional USB 3.0. Drives can be installed without tools in about 3 seconds, and the enclosure supports hot swapping.

The unit accepts 2.5-inch SATA I/II/III HDDs and SSDs of 7mm or 9.5mm thickness, up to 6TB. It enters automatic sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity and has a blue LED indicator.

ORICO lists compatibility with Windows, Linux and Mac OS, and says the enclosure can connect to PCs, laptops, TVs and a PS4. A 50cm USB-A cable is included, and the enclosure is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports.

A discount campaign runs from October 24 to October 31, with two models priced at 882 yen and 950 yen after the discounts. The article states that it may earn affiliate revenue.
