Pebble OS to add JavaScript plugin support, running on phones

Eric Migicovsky said plugins will run on smartphones, letting watchfaces supply weather and stock data without hardcoding.

Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has announced that Pebble OS will soon support plugins. The plugins are written in JavaScript and run on smartphones rather than on the watches themselves, according to androidauthority.com.

With plugin support, watchfaces will be able to supply data such as weather and stock prices, and perform actions without developers hardcoding them into each watchface.

Migicovsky described the change as the biggest change to the SDK since forever.

A week before the report, a hands-on video compared the Pebble Round 2 with the Garmin Forerunner 165.
