Qualcomm Denies Galaxy S27 Chip Overheating Report

Qualcomm told 9to5Google a report claiming the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 overheats in Samsung's Galaxy S27 testing is inaccurate.

Qualcomm has rejected a report claiming its Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset may be left out of Samsung's Galaxy S27 series because of overheating, according to 9to5Google.

The original report, attributed to the Seoul Economic Daily, said Samsung had informed Qualcomm of a heat problem with the chipset and is weighing its own Exynos 2700 as an alternative. The report also said the two companies were in talks to resolve the issue within October 2026.

Qualcomm disputed that account, telling 9to5Google that the report about thermal issues related to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is inaccurate. The company did not offer further detail.

Samsung has not publicly commented on the report or on its chip plans for the Galaxy S27 series.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 was announced in September 2026, built on a 2nm process with two 5GHz cores. At launch, Qualcomm claimed a 13% CPU performance gain over the Gen 5 chip, a 44% GPU improvement, and gains in AI processing and power efficiency. The US-bound Motorola Signature 27 is among the phones already announced with the chipset.

Samsung has turned to Exynos across its US lineup before: more than a decade ago, it used Exynos exclusively in the US for the Galaxy S6 after overheating problems with Qualcomm's flagship chip at the time.
