Replit Ends Anthropic Work Over Cost, Performance

CEO Amjad Masad said Replit stopped working with Anthropic, citing cost, partnership and performance, and that internal benchmarks favor Sol and Astra.

Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt, according to TechCrunch. Masad said the decision was made for several reasons, including cost, partnership and performance.

Masad said ChatGPT is better now and that Replit's internal and public benchmarks show Sol and Astra perform better at building vibe-coded applications from scratch.

Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August 2026. Under its previous arrangement with Anthropic, Replit used Anthropic's Claude models to run its platform, which was said to have helped grow revenue significantly. A September blog post cited Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models running in Replit Agent's production environment.

Masad also discussed Replit's business mix at the conference. He said enterprise was about 2% of revenue last year and about 15% this year, with more than 50% of revenue coming from B2B.
