Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3, a new Bluetooth tracker that adds pet activity monitoring and a longer range. The device was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus and Tab S12 Ultra.
The SmartTag 3 starts at $30 for a single unit or $100 for a four-pack. It supports Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, which provides distance and direction guidance up to 60 meters. A new Place Notification feature enables geofence alerts.
For pet owners, the tracker can function as an activity monitor, recording movement, active time, and sleep. It also offers cross-platform compatibility through the SmartThings app for both iPhone and Android.
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 will be available in black or white starting in early November. According to Engadget, the predecessor had a battery life of 500 days in normal mode and 700 days in Power Saving mode, and a range about one-third of the SmartTag 3's 60-meter range.
