Samsung Health Update Adds Scan Meal Beta, Expands Sleep and Running Coaching

Samsung's new Samsung Health update brings a beta meal-photo analysis tool in the US, a pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph, and Strava data import.

Samsung has begun rolling out an update to its Samsung Health app that introduces a beta feature called Scan Meal in the US, according to androidpolice.com. The feature analyzes a photo of a meal to provide nutritional insights, ingredients and calorie breakdowns.

Scan Meal also generates a Diet Score placed into four tiers: Needs Attention, Fair, Good and Excellent.

The update adds a pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph that combines sleep time, sleep regularity, awake time during the night, sleep satisfaction and Energy Score. Sleep Coaching can now be initiated with just three days of data within the past two weeks; previously, starting it required seven days of data within a month. Running Coach training tiers have expanded from 10 to 12 levels.

Samsung Health now supports importing data from Strava as well as exporting data to social media platforms.
