Samsung SmartTag3 Launches as First Cross-Platform Tracker
Samsung's SmartTag3 works with Android and iOS, is 35% smaller than the SmartTag2, and launches in South Korea on October 7.
Samsung has announced the SmartTag3, its first item tracker that works across both Android and iOS devices. The new tag is 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the SmartTag2 after Samsung removed the built-in key ring.
The SmartTag3 adds Compass View with Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, which provides distance and direction readings up to 60m away — three times further than the previous tag. Battery life is rated at up to 550 days, or 790 days in Power Saving Mode.
New software features include Place Notification, which alerts when a tagged item enters or leaves a defined area, plus Movement Detection Alert and Left Behind Alert. The tracker is IP67 rated and comes in Black and White.
The SmartTag3 launches in South Korea on October 7, with a US release to follow soon and more markets next year. The SmartTag2, which is three years old, had a battery life of 500 days, or 700 days in Power Saving Mode, and both earlier generations featured a built-in key ring.
