Satlyt Raises $8M, Software to Launch on SpaceX Rocket

Satlyt raised an $8 million seed round led by Non Sibi Ventures. Its software will launch Thursday on a SpaceX rocket alongside Google's Project Suncatcher prototype.

Satlyt has raised an $8 million seed round led by Non Sibi Ventures, the company announced. The startup also said its software is set to launch on a SpaceX rocket on Thursday.

The launch will carry Satlyt's software alongside the first prototype for Google's Project Suncatcher. Satlyt's software will run on a spacecraft built by TakeMe2Space, one of three customers on the mission, along with NASA and Stellerian.

Satlyt's approach focuses on running AI models directly on spacecraft rather than sending all data to Earth. In 2024, founder Rama Afullo worked at SpaceX's Starlink communications network. Earlier this year, Satlyt deployed Google DeepMind's Gemma AI model onboard a spacecraft operated by Momentus. That model cut the size of a transmission about onboard software errors by more than 60%.

The seed round and the upcoming launch position Satlyt among a growing group of startups testing whether AI can make satellite operations faster and less bandwidth-intensive. TechCrunch reported the funding and launch plans.
