Seiko Watch to launch KX701S clock on November 20 for 27,500 yen

The KX701S is a modern arrangement of the SPX-961, described as the world's first household quartz wall clock, and runs about three years on one coin battery.

Seiko Watch will release the KX701S household wall-mounted quartz clock on November 20 at a price of 27,500 yen, according to watch.impress.co.jp. The company positions the model as a modern arrangement of the design of the SPX-961.

The KX701S has an annual accuracy of ±30 seconds and uses a newly developed quartz movement. Its hour and minute hands are redesigned from those of the SPX-961 to improve visibility.

The clock has a sweep second hand that reduces drive noise, and runs for about three years on a single coin-type battery. It measures 314 x 314 x 36 mm and weighs about 770 g.

Based on the 1968 SPX-961

The original SPX-961 was released in 1968 by Hattori Clock Shop, now Seiko Watch, and is known as the world's first household quartz wall clock, with more than 10 times the accuracy of mechanical clocks of the time. In 2020 it was selected as an important historical material of science and technology by the National Museum of Nature and Science.
