Sony ends Japan sales of its last 4K UHD player on October 22

Sony Japan lists the UBP-X700/K as out of stock with no restocking planned, leaving Panasonic as the last major maker of UHD players.

Sony has reportedly discontinued the UBP-X700/K, its last remaining 4K UHD Blu-ray player, with sales in Japan ending on October 22, according to the Japanese blog and reseller Kunkoku. FlatpanelsHD first spotted the report.

Sony Japan's website lists the UBP-X700/K as out of stock and carries a notice that the model will not be restocked.

The UBP-X700/K was the last UHD player Sony manufactured and sold in Japan. Sony still makes one DVD player model and one Blu-ray player model.

With the UBP-X700/K gone, Panasonic is now the last major electronics company still making UHD players.

Earlier in 2026, Sony announced plans to end PlayStation disc production in 2028. Earlier in 2026, the company also sold much of its TV and hardware production factories and facilities to TCL, which took a controlling stake in Sony's Bravia TV business.
