Synopsys Launches AgentEngineer AI Tools for Chip Design
Synopsys unveils AgentEngineer AI suite for chip verification, implementation, and analog planning, with over 50 customer engagements and general availability planned by year-end.
Synopsys has announced a suite of AgentEngineer tools designed to carry out long-running tasks in chip design, including verifying and implementing chips, planning analog design, and manufacturing. The company said it has more than 50 customer engagements underway for the tools and plans general availability by the end of the year.
The announcement, reported by tomshardware.com, signals a growing push to apply AI agents to semiconductor workflows that have traditionally required extensive manual effort. Synopsys is positioning AgentEngineer as a way to handle complex, multi-step processes across the chip design cycle.
Other companies are pursuing similar goals. Cognichip says its ACI platform can generate specifications and RTL and automatically produce verification plans and testbenches. Empyrean Technology recently claimed an AI agent reduced the time to complete one circuit layout task from four weeks to one.
OpenAI has also pointed to AI-assisted chip development, saying its models helped it and Broadcom develop Jalapeño, its first custom inference chip, from initial design to tape-out in nine months.
In background context, Arm alone generated nearly $5 billion in its 2026 financial year, roughly half from licensing and half from royalties.
